One Book, One Community at the Hibbing Public Library

How can you participate?

  1. Get the books. Look for Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and/or Seedfolks at the library or buy a copy at your local bookstore.
  2. Read. Between now the end of April, join your family and friends in reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and/or Seedfolks.
  3. Get a Reader's Guide. A free resource guide is being developed for participants to use when organizing their discussion groups. Discussion guides will be available at the Hibbing Public Library and your local bookstore in March, or find the same information here on this web site.
  4. Discuss. Organize a book club at your home, community center, senior center, coffee house or place of worship, and discuss the fascinating characters and themes as well as the historical and cultural significance
  5. Participate in Events.
  • Art Display by Joan Beth Lewandowski beginning on Monday, March 29th. “Perspective on Eternal Purpose”. Artist Reception will be on Thursday, April 1st, 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the library auditorium. Joan is an area artist currently living in Mr. Iron.

  • National Library Week - April 11-16 - Come in and tell us what you thought of the Community Read or your favorite book, or why you love the library. A mural with all your notes will be displayed at the end of the week.
  • Piano Recital by students of Rachel Maki on Thursday, April 15th, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the library auditorium.

  • Brown Bag Lunch/Discussion. Master Gardener, Donna Stuntebeck, will be moderating a discussion on "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22nd, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the library auditorium. Coffee will be provided.

  • Piano Recital by students of Nadine Berg on Monday, April 26th, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the library auditorium.

  • Poets Workshop for Kids on Wednesday, April 28th, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the children's room. Bart and Ross will present a poetry and music program for kids.

  • Magic Mama Concert on Friday, April 30th, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the library auditorium. Magic Mama will be performing organic hip hop and world beats for the whole family. The show is a group performance with crowd participation.

  • There will also be information displays during the month on "Donate Life" (April 5-16), "Volunteer Week" (April 19-23), and "Fibromyalgia Awareness" (April 26 - May 7).
