Iron Range Kickball Championship

The Iron Range Kickball Championship will be Aug. 19, at Bennett Park in Hibbing. Play is scheduled from
5:45 to 11:45 p.m. on that day.

Cost to enter is $75 per team. Each team will have 11 players. To register, call Dan at 218-969-8273. Teams must be registered by Wednesday, Aug. 17. Individual players are welcome but must show up at 5:15 p.m. to be placed on an open team.

AQUATIC ADVENTURES AT MCCARTHY BEACH STATE PARK

MinnAqua will present Aquatic Adventures at McCarthy Beach State Park on Saturday, July 2. The“Incredible Journey” will be presented from 10 to 11 a.m. Become a water molecule, roll the dice and simulate the movement of water within the water cycle. “Life in the Water” will be presented from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This presentation has a limit of 20 people so sign up at the park office before July 1 by calling 254-7979. Explore the water in Side Lake and discover the variety of critters that live there.

Summer Day Bus Trips offered by the Senior Center

BUS TRIP PLANNED TO CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES 4
The Community Senior Center has had much interest in attending this sequel to the wonderful Church Basement Series. A bus trip is planned for the 2 p.m., Sunday, July 31, matinee at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids if there is enough interest.

COMMUNITY SENIOR CENTER PLANS BUS TRIP TO STATE FAIR
Once again The Community Senior Center will be sending a bus to the Minnesota State Fair on Senior Day. Sign up now to reserve your seat to spend the day at the fair hassle free. No worries about driving or parking, just enjoy the day. Registration must be before Aug. 19. The cost will be $36, which must be paid prior to Aug. 19. BAND TO HOLD MARCH-A-THON

The Hibbing High School Marching Band will perform through the community on Tuesday, June 21.

Starting at the high school at 6 p.m., the band will continue to 21st Street to Third Avenue East and play for a while at the Hill-Crest assisted living facility. They will continue on Third Avenue East to 31st Street and go left toward Greenhaven Apartment and then on to Seventh Avenue East, and then continue back to the high school.

The march-a-thon is a way for the band to give back to the community. It is a fundraising event as band parents will be carrying donation buckets for anyone who might care to donate funds to the band.

The rain date is Tuesday, June 28.

Hibbing Jubilee

This year’s Hibbing Jubilee has added an event to the annual festival called.  “Art on the Avenue”.  It will feature local vendors, artists and crafters, a farmers market and activities like free yoga classes. “Art on the Avenue” will be held July 9, 2011 - 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM with the yoga demonstration and class from 10:30 AM -noon on the City Hall lawn. The chamber is still accepting vendor applications. Interested parties should contact the chamber at 262-3895 or hibbcofc@hibbing.org 

The Jubilee has traditionally featured the “Jubilee Sweetest Grand Parade” and the multi-stage “Jubilee Street Dance”. This year is no different with the parade starting 3:00 PM and the street dance immediately following around 5:00 PM.  Both events will be in Hibbing’s historic downtown.

Organs In Review Summer Concert Series

This summer’s Organs in Revue will begin at noon Wednesday, June 15, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic
Church, 2028 Seventh Av. E. Kristen Weikum is the organist. In addition to the organ pieces, Weikum will play several organ-trumpet duets with Rolf Widstrand. Weikum is choir director and youth coordinator at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia. Widstrand, a Hibbing native, is a retired educator, who
keeps a very busy schedule.

There is no charge to attend the recitals, but donations toward the Trox Hamilton Organ Scholarship Fund will be accepted. Trox was an organ/piano teacher in Hibbing and accompanied the high school choirs for many years. She was one of the organizers of this recital series, along with Hibbing Community Education and Hibbing College Community Service. The scholarships are for anyone wishing to learn to play the organ. A light lunch will follow the program for a small cost.

Volunteers Needed!

The Hull Rust Mine View is seeking volunteers for its Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June
25, at the Mine View. A volunteer meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Hibbing Tourist Senior Center, 12th Avenue and Howard Street. Those skilled in activities such as face painting, making animals out of balloons or being a clown are invited to volunteer for the day. For more information, call Jim at 929-1418.
