HOSPICE PROGRAM NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Fairview North Star Hospice is looking for more volunteers to serve a growing number of patients. Volunteers are needed that are willing to assist patients and their families by providing
support services such as companionship, fixing a light meal or running errands.

All hospice volunteers must participate in a training program held at the HealthLine North Star Hospice office located at the Mesabi Mall in Hibbing. The next training sessions are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 20 through Thursday, Sept. 23, from 4 :30 to 7:30 p.m.

Volunteer participants will learn about communication, family dynamics, death and dying, bereavement and other essential skills for serving patients and their families receiving hospice care. A great effort is made to match patients, families and volunteers so that common likes and hobbies are shared. This makes the relationship more comfortable and rewarding for all involved.

Volunteers are scheduled according to their availability. Every effort is made to work together to ensure assignments meet volunteer and patients comfort levels.

If you are interested in a volunteer position that could change your life, call Judy Sweet, volunteer coordinator, at 262-6982.
