Volunteers needed to walk and enjoy the summer in Hibbing!

The Emerald Ash Borer - poses a threat to all ash trees. Ash trees make up a very large number of the trees in our area and could be wiped out by the Borer. To help fight this danger, the University of Minnesota has chosen Hibbing for a very special project.

Part of the University's work will include a detailed inventory of every tree in town. Volunteers will be needed to help conduct this tree census. Assista nts from the U of M will also join in. The inventory will provide vital information needed to protect our trees now and into the future.

Staff from the U will be in Hibbing to train us in March. (Dates depending on volunteer's availability.) Once we are trained, we can begin the inventory and work on it throughout the summer.

Contact Daryl Brekke (daryl@ci.hibbing.mn.us) at City Hall (218-262-3486, ext. 723) or the Hibbing Parks and Rec Dept. (218-362-5940) as soon as possible to arrange training.
