Memorial Day Services

Luminary Bag Lighting Ceremony - Sunday May 30th volunteers are needed starting at 10:00 am to fill and place luminary bags. Lighting ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m.

The Maple Hill Cemetery Memorial Day service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with arrangements by: ROSATI-STILINOVICH-KOSKI POST 8510

With music by the Hibbing City Band, Invocation & Benediction by Father Ryan Moravitz, Blessed Sacrament Church, Tributes to our Deceased Comrades and a presentation of POW-MIA Memorial Wreaths.

The Memorial Address will be given by Colonel Patrick R. Dryer, United States Army National Guard, who will be introduced by Veda Ponikvar, Civilian Aide Emeritus to US Army

After the service, the public is invited for lunch at the VFW Post 8510 or Servicemen’s
Quarters in the Memorial Building.

Remember our service men and women on this Memorial Day and everyday.

New Red Cross Classes

Sign up now for the American Red Cross classes. The Hibbing Red Cross offers a variety of CPR, First Aid, Babysitting and other life saving classes. Two other classes they offer are:

  1. Waterfront Lifeguard Training that will be held in Hibbing June 7-11 for those at least 15 years old and can swim 500 yards continuously.

  2. Wilderness and Remote First Aid Classes will be offered this spring and summer. This is a 17 hour scenario-based class designed for people who work or play in remote wilderness areas.

Dylan Days


Dylan Days will be held May 27-30, 2010. Over the past several years Dylan Days has built a grassroots tradition including the singer/songwriter contest, writing contest and literary showcase, one act playwright contest, visual arts competition, Bobby Zimmerman bus tour, live music series and the Hibbing Arts Council Dylan Days Benefit Concert, along with several other annual events.

Summer Youth Sports Registration

Hibbing Parks and Recreation Summer youth program registration starts this week sign up the younger kids for swim lessons, T-ball, Tyke Soccer, Golf or Tennis lessons.

Volleyball Camp will be held June 7 -10 at the Hibbing High School for grades 2 -12. Registration deadline is June 5th. For more information call Joyce at 263-7608.

Joel McDonald's Basketball Camp for boys and girls will be held June 14 -18 at the Hibbing High School. For more information call 262-1494.

Girls Hockey Camp will start the week of June 7th at the Hibbing Memorial Building.

Filing for City Offices

The filing period for these offices is from 8:00 a.m., May 18, 2010, to 5:00 p.m., June 1, 2010. The place of filing is the Office of City Clerk, 401 East 21st Street, Room 201, City Hall. The filing fee is $5.00.

Starting Young - HCC College for Kids

We’re Starting Young because “Learning is Fun”!

College for Kids is a fun, educational, week long summer program designed for kids ages 7-12.
Classes are designed to be “hands on” and in a wide range of subject matter.

The cost of the entire week is $90, this includes classes, daily snacks, full lunch & all materials.

New Garbage Collection System in Hibbing

THE INDIVIDUAL CARTS ARE ARRIVING On May 17 the new garbage carts will be arriving and will start being delivered to individual homes.

The carts will be delivered in front of your residence along with a garbage day pickup schedule.
On your scheduled pickup day place your cart in the alley by your garage apron and we will need about 3 feet of clearance around the cart.

If you have a driveway going to the street place your cart next to the curb on your scheduled pickup day and we need about 3 feet of clearance around the cart.

Alley steel containers will be removed as the carts are delivered.

Recycling will stay the same until June 1, 2010
